so im starting a website. it looks like crap. and will probably continue to look like crap until i figure out what the hell im doing. which will probably be never. but im not gonna let that get in my way.

the new strokes album 'room on fire' is out today, and if the recorded versions of the songs are half as good as they were live, well then damnit its gonna be a good album. its pretty rare that i go and buy an album the day its released (i hate paying full price for the tunes) but i will make the exception for this one.

there was a review of the live show in this past weeks metro times that i had a bit of a problem with. mainly the glaring factual errors, but also the attitude with which it was written.
here's the article:
http://www.metrotimes.com/editorial/story.asp?id=5552
and here's my response to its author:

"I was rather disappointed in your Strokes review in this past week’s paper, not only because I rather enjoyed the show, but also because it contained a pair of glaring factual errors. The new album did not come out last week as your review stated, but is in fact due out tomorrow, 10/28. Also in the article you state “When the band was done, the members simply exited the stage, purposely without an encore.” If you hadn’t bolted out of the show in disgust, you would have found that the Strokes did indeed come out for an encore. And it was fun. Julian climbed on the speakers and up the wall of the stage and jumped into the crowd. Cheesy, yes. But an encore from a band that doesn’t do encores, pretty cool.

From the music editor of the Metro Times, I figured that I could at the very least expect factual accuracy.

The show was what it was. I didn’t expect to see the ‘saviors of rock’ that night, I just expected to have a good time seeing a band I enjoy. And I did. I abandoned my too cool for the room attitude for a night and enjoyed myself. You should try it sometime. It might do you, and your readers some good."

i felt much better after sending the letter.

rem best of comes out today as well. there's two new songs on the album, bad day and animal, but i already own all the other stuff in triplicate. no need for this purchase for now. but the spirit will probably move me when in the record store and ill end up spend 20 bucks for quadruplicates (is this even a word?)

good new music tuesday. now if only it would stop raining.

notable albums of 2002-in no particular order

(a couple of these may have actually come out in 2001, but if i didn’t discover them until 2002, then it was as if they didn’t exist until then, in my world, and frankly, im not as neurotic as i used to be and am too damn lazy to go back and double check the dates on them.)

so there.
