I feel like i didnt give the whitestripes enough credit in the last post. they were damn good. jack was much more personable and talkative at this new years show than at any of the previous 3 ive attended.
how come ive never read, ever, in any interview how weird jack white's talking voice is. its just fucking weird. like hes doing some sort of character voice. its creepy. but why have i never read anywhere in all the whitestripes press that jack talks like a freak? never. i would think after conducting an interview with said rock star, it would be the first thing a reporter would report. its that weird. unless its some sort of put on for the shows, but somehow, i dont think so.

back to not giving the whitestripes enough credit, ball and biscuit was definitely the highlight of their set. he manhandles that guitar. im awed. im always impressed by guitar playing, but tell myself if i tried really hard i could do it. but what he does, i cant even comprehend that all that goodness is coming out of one little guitar, let alone think about trying to replicate it.

next time....adventures in seeing people you know who pretend to not know who you are.

here we go.

the holidays were great. fun christmas (eve) festivities at the new home of the parents, a relatively normal christmas...pigging out on leftovers and all. but all i can think about right now is new years eve. chicago. aragon ballroom. line out the door and around the corner to get in. worth every freezing second of waiting in line. blanche. flaming lips. white stripes. the absolute best way in the country to ring in the new year. im confident in declaring that there is no band on earth more fun than the flaming lips. impossible. i dont think ive had that much fun ever in my life. Inflatable dancing sunshine people, girls dancing around in their undies and pasties on stage, monkey puppets, more confetti and balloons and fog and fun than an adult mind could comprehend. and the everybody LOVED it. the flaming lips told the whole story behind the 'thank you jack white for the fiber optic jesus that you gave me song' and how, sadly, they left it on too long and it melted, and then there was a big singalong. actually, all of the flaming lips songs were singalongs. it was like a barney concert for adults. i cant possibly put into words the amount of fun had in that 4500 capacity venue.

the whitestripes were good too... the flaming lips/white stripes onstage together doing seven nation army to ring in the new year was genius. my one and only complaint about the night is that the bill should have been flipped. nobody should have to follow the flaming lips. not even the whitestripes could put on a better show. the momentum of the night kinda slowed down after the flaming lips left the stage. it was still amazing in the scheme of things, but the fun factor dipped down by about 50percent.

if theres a new musical/religious cult headed by wayne coyne, count me in. yoshimi battling the pink robots 24/7. but if wayne doesnt go the cult route, those polyphonic spree folks look like theyre enjoying themselves quite a bit too.

adding to a fun chicago trip was a stop at blue chicago for some real live local blues, deep dish pizza galore, reckless records and the virgin megastore.

and before we left the chicago metro area we stopped at ikea, and i drooled over their extremely affordable and really cool looking stuff for about 2 hours. we really need an ikea nearer here.

we didnt make it to the aquarium, for a number of reasons, but one large deterrence was the admission price 21 dollars a person.

and since returning from chicago ive had a manicure and a pedicure, got in a minor car accident, and helped clean up after a major flood in my bosses basement.
in case you were wondering.

the recorded tunes

i want my money back

radiohead, hail to the thief

blur, think tank

two of the albums i was most excited about this year, and they were by far two of the most disappointing.  they were totally non-relevant.  both of them.  crazy beat? no thanks! i need something.  just a little something.  i was willing to open up and try something new.  but this was just crap.  and i splurged on both of these and got the limited edition, fancy packaging.  what a waste.  i want my money back.

ok ok. im a slacker. i havent updated the site in forever, and the blog entries have been slow to come as well. one of my resolutions for the new year is to keep this stuff much more up to date. but for now, ive got to get packing. its off to chicago tomorrow morning for the big new years celebration, deep dish pizza, a trip to the aquarium, record stores galore (oh how i love clark street) and a stop at ikea on the way back.

happy new year!!!!!

warning. this post is basically responses to the comments left in the last post. and thats about it. so if you havent read the previous comments, and/or you dont care about matt, the white stripes, the flaming lips, music in general, new years eve, chris' sister deirdre, bad tv, chris, liz, sickness, jimmy johns, lettuce, the holidays, yoga, low carb brownies, football, chris' brother brendan, broadcasting careers, or shutouts, well then maybe you dont want to continue reading this post. just so ya know.

ok matt....you were there. you were at the internationally gossiped about white/von bondie fight. was it that bad that you've really lost ALL respect for jack? maybe he had a really great reason for beating the shit out of him. and even if not, hes still the best damn guitar player of our generation. and a musical genuis. for real.

and should a rock stars personal life really have that large of an effect on how much you like their music? should it have any effect at all? i mean if you werent there, and if you were living under a rock and didnt know it happened, you'd still think he was the best ever, right? and when he picks up his guitar next week, it wont sound any different than it did last month will it? i mean, you can think hes a dick, but his music can still kick ass cant it? plus, need i remind you that you love meg and her dirty hair. she didnt punch anyone did she?

and even if you dont want to see the stripes anymore, i beg you not to forget its a double bill with the flaming lips, who, in my well seasoned opinion, put on THE MOST fun show ever. ever!!!

so, please, matt...take it back. take back your comment. you're breakin my heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

deirdre-does chris make fun of you for watching bad shows too????? do i really even have to ask that question???? hes the self proclaimed tv programming authority of the universe. luckily, you probably avoid most or all of the taunting being in jersey. i however encounter it on an almost constant basis. yay for me!

liz-feel better. colds suck. ive got the super size bag of munchies classic mix all ready to go. see ya sunday.

i ate a sub from jimmy johns today at our holiday work party that was inside of a lettuce wrap instead of being in a bun. it was interesting. not very filling. and didnt hold its shape at all. i wouldnt recommend it.

im officially on xmas vacation.
i went to yoga tonight.
for dinner i ate some of blain ensleys favorite new receipe, its for turkey lasagne.
for dessert, made some low carb brownies.

now im watching the university of delaware/colgate college championship football game. chris' brother brendan is doing play by play. we're watching the game on espn 2 and listening to him call it on the internet. another misguided soul pursuing a broadcasting career. he sounds great tho. university of delaware just won 40 to nothing.

finally something of worth in the pollstar listing...

finally something of worth in the pollstar listings!
damien rice, st. andrews, 4-25-03
they might be giants, some summer festival appearance in ann arbor, 7-3-04
damien rice won the shortlist music prize this year (beat out the likes of bright eyes, sigur ros, interpol, the streets, the black keys and so on) and hes an irish singer/songwriter. ive read comparisons to david gray and jeff buckley, which arent completely wrong, but arent exactly right either. its just really pretty music. really really pretty music about love and loss and the like. and theres this girl who sings with him and someone who plays the chello in some of the songs...its very melancholy, romantic, dreamy. i always love the addition of strings to the modern tunes. and the harmonica too for that matter (when done properly of course) i dont own his album 'o' but i have downloaded most of the songs and well...im excited to go and see him live in april.

and july is far away, but they might be giants put on a fun show. chris' favorite band. if were still living here at that point well surely be heading to ann arbor for some shopping food and they might be giants goodness.
man that seems to be so far away.
probably because it is.

went and saw elf yesterday. not quite what i expected. much more of a kids 'feel-good' kinda story than i had anticipated, but still rather enjoyable. nice way to get into the holiday spirit.

one week till christmas! one week till christmas!

im done with my shopping. all of it. and most of my wrapping too.

maybe i should work on the website a little. ive been neglecting it, mostly because chris hogs the computer and i dont really have time. hopefully there'll be some updates soon. and on a more regular basis.

and just 2 weeks to the big new years show!!! hope jack white doesnt jump off the stage and start beating random people up!

does anybody watch ed anymore? dont. its awful. its like theyre making it up as they go along.

abc's line of fire has yet to dissapoint. ditto for my new haircut.

answer: shopping shopping shopping and my grandmas...
Monday, 15 December 2003
answer: shopping shopping shopping and my grandmas surprise 70th birthday party in jackson. question: what has amber been doing over the last few days?
the christmas shopping is coming very close to being finished. very very close. theres been a bit of a slowdown because theres only one car between chris and i right now, but this time its not my car thats the problem. its scary when the 92 cavalier is the reliable car in the 'household'. but hopefully the nissan dealership will hop to it and figure out what is causing his car to not want to start and we'll be back to a 2 car household real quick-like.

and the surprise party was fun. alot of driving though. my aunt lives in a gorgeous house, but its in the middle of nowhere. saw grandma and grandpa for the first time in about a year or so, and other out of town relatives. my uncles are all nuts. but i understand why my dad is the way he is way better after spending time with a bunch of my crazy uncles. fun. but totally insane. i

overall, it was nice. ate too much food. and even had some dessert. bad amber. bad bad amber. i think i gained like 15 pounds in that one day. i blame my aunt sheryl and her yummy frosted mini-muffins. muffin-licious!!!! oh, and the carrot cake was pretty damn good too.

looks like bush has secured his re-election with the capture of saddam.

does anyone go and see movies on christmas day. i think i might this year. big fish, the new tim burton movie comes out. what else is there to do after all the presents are opened. our family does our big get together celebration on christmas eve(at my parents house)...so after about 10 am xmas morning, the fun is over.
