i have mixed feelings about fall. its beautiful and all - especially in vermont - but it means winters not very far behind - and the winters here are long and cold. fall is like the sunday of the seasons - even though its kickass because its part of the weekend, you cant help but feeling a little anxious and sad with monday (or winter) lurking around the corner. i don't HATE winter - but im not crazy about it - thank god im enjoying the whole skiing thing.
but i digress - fall - one really kick ass thing about fall: pumpkin beer. ive tried 5 different varities so far this year:
weyerbacher imperial pumpkin ale
smuttynose pumpkin ale
shipyard pumpkinhead ale
southern tier pumking
post road pumpkin ale
my favorite is the shipyard - something about the balance of spices is just perfect - it's not too heavy - really drinkable - funny that it got bad reviews - maybe my palate isnt very sophisticated. doesnt make me enjoy it any less.
i also recall brown's having a particularly yummy pumpkin ale - need to get over there soon.
enjoying a pumpkinhead right now - think im gonna go dig out the halloween decorations from the attic. would it be overkill if i were to be listening to the smashing pumpkins while i did it? nah, im gonna stick with spiritualized "amazing grace"
heading home to detroit for the holidays on friday. not a moment too soon. ive yet to miss a christmas at home, and frankly, thats just the way it should be. last year was tough enough missing the big xmas eve miller house festivities, i cant imagine what it would be like to miss altogether.
so its cold and snowy here. i knew it was bound to happen sooner or later...i was just hoping for later. we've had a couple of 6+ inch storms, and were expecting a major winter storm with 8 inches overnight tonight and another 4ish tomorrow night. thats a lot of snow. luckily i live close enough to work that if im "snowed in" i can just walk. i bought snowpants and boots, so i guess im prepared. it would be so awesome to get snow days as adults...but that definitely doesnt happen in the radio world. i got a remote car starter installed last weekend to help me deal with this whole snow/cold thing. i think that maybe come the new year snow tires may become a necessity.
in the new year i may also be looking for a new place to live. the landlords are being ridiculous. apparently i moved into a nunnery and didnt know it. awesome. and i hate moving. i really really hate moving. and the idea of moving in the cold/snow/ice is even worse. we'll see how this plays out over the next few weeks.
listening to blurs s/t album right now. damon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so good.
cant wait to see everyone when im home. think im gonna go have a beer now.
i guess it's official that im a vermonter, i went and got my license and plates today
aut and andy get here thursday. thats awesome
also awesome, rob dickinson doing vocals on a new neverending white lights song. listen to "where we are" here
also awesome, a new rob dickinson song called end of the world. watch video of a live performance of it here
also awesome, the new soulsavers album, mark lanegan does vocals on the majority of the tunes. its dark and soulful and fantastic. check out a few tracks here
this is what im going to be for halloween...hope its as cute in person as it is in the picture
autumn and andy are coming to visit in less than 2 weeks. how awesome is that.
im really starting to get why people are all ga-ga over vermont. the trees are turning and its magical. theyll be here at a great time to celebrate their 1 year wedding anniversary.
went out on a bike ride with my roommate today. and hes cooking dinner right now. having a roommate is cool.
i get to interview half of the foo fighters on tuesday. including dave grohl. any suggestions for questions i should ask? interviews supposed to be at 6pm tuesday night. im way excited to see them live
thinking about songs that would be appropriate alternative-type halloween-ish songs. interpol's 'evil', band of horses 'is there a ghost', smiths 'cemetery gates' come to mind...what would you put on a halloween mix tape?
